Happy Birthday

It’s mid-July and I’m sitting here in the shade. I’m guessing that it’s mid-morning because the sun’s begun to creep around the side of our pod and reach for me with its scorching tendrils. Guessing because I don’t have a watch on right now and sitting because my infinitely better half and I are staying in a kind of eco-retreat on the North Devon coast. Loveland Farm it’s called. A glamping commune of tipis, globe-like pods, three pigs, five sheep and an abundance of wildlife close to Hartland Point. The area is a UNESCO Site of Natural Beauty and it’s easy to see why.

Right now there are three peregrine falcons circling around the swallows that are darting overhead and other than the comical baying of the sheep there’s no sound at all. A place of contentment. Of tranquility. An escape from the noise and demands of the outside world. A good place then to finally start this blog. I decided to call it e.cole-logical because my intention is to devote this site to wildlife, the natural world and those who endeavour to protect it. And because I’m a smart-arse.

Loveland Farm seems an excellent birthplace for it. An idyllic site for an idealist conception. Eco-toilets, hammocks and sustainable living alongside decent wi-fi. As good a starting place as any.
